Blotter App Reviews

Blotter does not work!

I installed this on my MBP 13" running Snow Leopard and the app simply does not work. I see the blotter icon in the menu bar and dock - but no sign of the calendar on my desktop. I have fiddled with the preferences - still no luck! Probably best to save your $10 in the meantime.

Be warned, broken on Snow Leopard

This version works fine on my 08 macbook running lion but is completely nonfunctional on my 10 macbook pro running snow leopard. Beware if you are still running snow leopard! Nice program when it works and the changes in 2.0 are really nice, shame on the developer for not testing this product properly!

I EMAILED THE COMPANY ABOUT VERSION 2.0 ISSUES

I was having the same problems with Version 2.0 on Snow Leopard. The calendar does not show up whatsoever. So I emailed the company telling them the situation and they have told me that version 2.0.1 will be available for download/upgrade soon, but didnt specify a date when this update will be released....

Great App

Quickly view your appointments and To Dos by just looking at your desktop. Great App!!

No Retina Display Support!

Half of the text is crisp. But all calendar entries are blurry. Please update your app to support Retina, and my rating would be a 4.

very good app for students

i have never written a review for an app because none have satisfied my expectations, but this app was and is perfect for me managing my time and homework as a college student

Not overly usable without Retina Display support

Fonts are very blurry - not too pleasant to look at; borderline usable. Would move to a 4 with Retina Support. It would also be VERY useful to be able to hover over a meeting/appointment and have a small window overlay with the details of the meeting in question.

Favourite App!

Im one of those people who forget to look at their calenders if it isnt blatant. This app is great for that- I turn on my computer and I see what I have to do for the day. Even though the price is steep- it is definitely worth it!

Its pretty but...

Looks very nice, but functionality wise its pretty weak. Nothing is editable from the app. ToDos dont even display a due date. No Note information is displayed. Over all its a nice app to get a very brief look at your calendar, but not worth $10. Spend the extra cash on Fantastical and get an app that can actually do something.

Causes fan on my 2011 MacBook Air to Max Out

I absolutely love the concept of this app, and it fits my need to a "T". BUT, and this is a big BUT, it causes my fan to go from 2000rpm to max out at over 5000. This, of course, drains my battery. I wanted to love this app, I really did.

MacLife recommendation

I bought this app based on a glowing review in MacLife, paid my $9.99 and was disappointed to see how crummy it looks on my Retina display (an oversight by MacLife not to mention this, considering theyd reviewed the "13 Retina a few pages earlier). Im hanging on to Blotter for now (if only cause Im feeling stubborn about the $9.99), but the second something comparable and Retina-compatible comes along, Ill delete it. Please update!

Needs an editing function!

Great app otherwise. It is really annoying though that you cant edit an event once you put it in, I think thats something thats very basic and definately something that should be included especially if you look at the steep price.

Very nice app but looks terrible on retina display

I am looking forward to see an update for the retina display. I like the application, useful, nicely done, simple. But on a retina display… keep up the good work and do not forget us with the last displays!

Great App! But...

Blotter is a very useful app to keep track of events/to dos... the ONLY big issue I have with the app is ONCE YOU CREATE AN EVENT, YOU CANNOT DELETE IT (unless the date has passed, or you MANUALLY delete it from iCal). I find this very inconvienient and hope they fix this issue a.s.a.p. Otherwise 5 star application.

Nice UI - Needs customization, Retina Support, and Editing Features

This app was accidentally purchased by my neice, but I decided to try it out since I was looking at nice Calendar apps. Although it looks really nice, it would be really helpful if you could customize the size of the fonts, colors of the blocks, skin of the calendar etc. Its all about your users, right? So make the app feel like their own customized calendar. An essential feature that BAFFLES me that you dont have for this app, is the ability to edit a task or event once youve created it. I need to change the location details and name of the task, but once Ive created it…theres no going back. --- This is really dumb and should be in there for common sense. I do not have a retina computer but it seems like another issue would be making it usable for retina. These are pretty basic stuff guys! Stop updating the app if youre not even gonna get the bare essentials on there. Either that, or give us our $10 back.

Gorgeous and simple

WIth retina display, its truly spectacular. Saves me so much time, and 2.2 is so much lighter and efficient than before. Some things Id like to see are the enabling of editing events when Blotter is brought to front, the ability to see more days ahead, and possibly more hours on the calendar days. Nevertheless, still very satisfied and this app is becoming a great staple.

Amazing

This has got to the best app for organizing your calendar. So many short keys and a beautiful layout make this app one you will make part of your routine.

Very useful but 1 suggestion

This app is awesome - it is clean, organized and works as stated. This is exactly what I was looking for, but the only thing I recommend is to PLEASE extend the time frame. The current time range is from 9 am to 6 pm. If you could make it customizable that would be great especially since my day starts at 5 am. Thanks a lot ! :)

Does exactly what it says

If you want a calendar on your desktop, tucked away until you needed it this is a perfect app for that. If you don’t I’d skip it (rather than pay for it then complain in a review :)

A good app with shortcomings in its layout customization options.

This is a decent app that displays a transparent calendar on your desktop. It works as advertised and has some useful features such as shortcuts for bringing the app to the front or scrolling through weeks in the full calendar view. I haven’t had any problems with it crashing or slowing down my computer, and its design is quite clean and unobtrusive. I took off one star because I think the default layout and customization options could have been better designed, particularly given the $10 price tag. Just FYI, here is what you CAN customize for the layout: - The size of the calendar (all the way up to full desktop size) - The size (but NOT the position) of each individual component (today’s date, reminders, the next few hours of your day, and a weekly view). To hide a component, you make it very small, which increases the size of other components. - Which calendars/reminder lists to display. - Whether to display the full current week or the next 7 days. If that’s all you need, then I can highly recommend this app, as it works quite well with these options. However, with a little more thought into the best default options (and perhaps the customization options), this app could go from “good” to “great”. Some examples: - Even though “right now” displays most of your schedule for today, you can’t tell the app NOT to display today in the week view. This duplication drives me a little crazy :), so I’ve elected to hide the “right now” box entirely. However, this means that I can’t visually differentiate today’s schedule from the rest of the week. - You cannot choose how many days to display in the full calendar. - You cannot change how many hours to display before and after “right now” in the “right now” box. - You cannot change the relative position of any of the components. - You cannot change the appearance in any way (calendar colours are taken from the Calendar app). - Hours displayed do not follow the “day starts/ends at” options from Calendar.app; I think they are based on your earliest and latest scheduled events. Even so, I have found a display option that, while not perfect, suits my needs well enough and so I will continue using this app. It is the best I have found so far.
