Blotter App Reviews

What I need but not worth 10 bucks

This app is what I was looking for in terms of displaying my calendar on my desktop; However, it is certainly not worth $10. It would be nice if there were more options to customize (something as I was expecting for the price).

Wow — I love this

Unlike some other reviewers, I love that this fades and hangs out on my desktop. I wish I knew abou this app earlier because it has really changed my level of productivity. It is very elegantly designed and is always there when you want a clearer picture of your calendar and to do’s. I like everything about it and am glad I purchased this one. I seem to be purchasing every calendar/to do app out there hoping to run across the ‘perfect one.’

It’s OK

I use AwesomeCal on my iPad and am praying for a desktop version SOON. But for the time being, I thought I’d give Blotter a try. I constantly need to check my calendar and to-do list, so seeing it all in one place AND having it as my background without having to change my background image AND creating my own shortcut to bring it to the front of the various windows I’ve got up is a big thumbs up. It also fades into your background, and you can adjust how many seconds it’ll take to do this after you’ve accessed Blotter through its menu bar icon or bringing it to the front. However, for the limited functionality of this app, it’s just way too overpriced. I can’t edit my calendar events (only add) nor can I cross off my to-do’s. I still have iCal and Reminders running on a designated Desktop, something I was hoping to consolidate and avoid doing by purchasing this app in the first place. Also, tasks (Reminders) aren’t placed along with their due dates (if they have one), something I hope will be changed in a recent update. The “Right Now” area of Blotter is also a bit redundant, in my opinion, given that a dotted line already runs across the week indicating the current time. My advice: Really think about why you would invest $10 in this low functionality app. If you think it’ll significantly boost your productivity and will end up paying for itself in the long run, go for it (that’s why I did it). But don’t fork over 10 bones then complain when my and fellow customer reviews have already painted a clear enough picture of just how basic and simple Blotter is.

I love this app!

This is just what I needed to make my day more productive. Instead of switching back and forth between Calendar, reminders and to do, it’s all on my desktop. I like the fact that it does not desapears from the desktop but it fades a bit. I would give it 5 starts but its a bit slow, otherwise, its a great app, simple and elegant. Kudos to WireLoad Inc.

Good

The design and layout is pretty nice; it fades into the background and is simple. The biggest issue that I have with the app is that in order to edit an event or reminder, you have to open ical/reminders. It would be nice to be able to edit within the app. Another small change is that it would be nice to have the option to view a small monthly calendar. Overall, good app that fufills its purpose.

Great Application

Downloaded this application last week and it is a life saver no longer am I flicking back on forth with window I just reduce the desktop and it is there. The only thing I would ask to be changed it the ability to click into the application to enable you to create calendar appointment other wise it is well worth the $9.95

Unable to close program

I have Blotter calendar is on my iMac OSX 10.9.5 desktop. But i can not see any way to close the program. I am not sure if controls have been hidden, But I cant find them . How do i get controls to display? More importantly how do I close the blotter program? version 2.2.3. You can not get to Blotter support as a message returns saying version 2.2.3 is not valid. The program actually works fine but it can not be removed and you can not get support.

Beautiful cal

Love this elegantly designed calendar. I always need a calendar in my face and this one sits nicely on my desktop. Very nice.

Excellent!

This app is everything I wanted in a desktop calendar. It’s unobtrusive but always available. It looks cool, it is totally customizable, and it’s very easy to set up and use. Blotter is the calendar app I have been searching for all my life!

Crashes too much

Keeps crashing on me, I can’t customize it to the size and type that I want. I keep deleting the app and reinstalling but it still won’t work. I dont’t know what to do

Great, but...

Great, but it freezes every so often, requiring restart since it can’t be force quit.

Pretty good

I was hoping to have an exact working replica of iCal on my desktop showing the entire month. But its no biggie.. This is great and helps me keep my week organized with work, and my school work.

not so great for laptops

i really wish you could increase the font size. its simply to small to read quickly (the whole point) on a 13” MBP.

Does not work with latest OS updates

This product used to work but when I updated my OS to Yosemite, it no longer communicated with Calendar & is completely blank. I contacted the developer WireLoad for help & they were responsive but couldn’t get the app to work for me either despite a Reset program they sent to me & supposedly trying to analyze data collected by the Utility programs & their own data collection program. They said claimed they would like for my money to be refunded but said they couldn’t refund me directly & suggested I contact Apple for it, but Apple denied my request for a refund by claiming no responsibility for apps that don’t work. So, check your OS prior to buying this because $9.99 is alot for something to not work & then not get your money back.

Updates

Fantastic app and calendar, but needs some updating. The ability to resize without loss of the info of a window under a certain size would be great (for example the Today’s date in the upper left). Also level of transperancy and ability to drag/drop/delete/add to the calendar.

DOES NOT WORK WITH OS X YOSEMITE

Seriously, it really does not work with OS X Yosemite. I recently purchased this app and was excited to use it since I am in despreate need. However, once it was installed it allowed me to customize the location I wanted it to be on my desktop. Once I closed that setting screen, the app has not allowed me to do anything else. Nothing opens. The settings can’t be found. The empty calendar is on my desktop but I cant do anything. The Blotter support has forums that don’t answer these questions. ….and there is no number? Waste of time and money. I should have read the previous reviewer that is having similar issues.

Work fine in Yosemite

I am on 10.10.2 and Blotter works fine. The interaction with it is minimal on purpose, the settings can be done from the menubar icon (maybe this helps other reviewers) It is best used with configuring the shortcuts to add Events and Reminders. For me this is much quicker than doing so via Calendar app and even quicker than Fantastical which I also use becuase the entry window opens in the middle of the screen. I would like to see a setting to change the level of opacity, font size adjustment of the TODO list, and to have more freeform claendar layout control. That would make it a 5-star app.

Great app

I really like being able to see my schedule and really like this app. Having my schedule always visable is great, and I’m able to customize both how and what is shown on my desktop. The only thing else it could do that would earn that 5th star from me would be to allow the times shown for each day to be a user preferance. For example I’d love to be able to tell it to to only show events that fall in the window between 8am and 10pm.

Works with Yosemite

I don’t write reviews but this app is excellent, and as of the date of this review it does in fact work with all of the current OS updates. There may be bugs, but I haven’t encountered them. I do wish I could choose the sorting in the to-do list based on category, but a minor quibble, and for someone who is rather picky… that’s really all I can offer.

Does not work with Yosemite

As is the case with everyone else, the Blotter calendar does not display any calendar events.
