Blotter App Reviews

Best App Ever- Using it with 10.9 Mavericks

This is the best app ever. Particulary useful for someone who can lose track of their schedule… VERY pretty. Very I absolutely love it. It is beyond worth the cost. Lots of ways to customize how it looks. Looks like there are some bugs with the new operating system. It’s still working with 10.9 Mavericks. Hoping that for others the bugs get fixed soon (do post a review if they do).

Great, but not perfect.

I like it. There are two needed improvements. 1) The ability to move the calendar widget to a different monitor. As one of millions who use multiple monitors, this is a must. 2) The ability to get details of an upcoming appointment right from the widget. Otherwise, its pretty darn cool.

Impossible to uninstall

how the hell do i get this off my computer? it wont let me move it to the trash because its always open. And there is no way to close it because the appication itslef is never open

Works fine with OSX 10.10.3

After reading reviews that stated this app didn’t work on Yosemite, I emailed the owner. I received a prompt reply that it works fine with the latest version. I downloaded the app, and well, works great. Not sure if the reviews are there to block sales or what. The app is beautifully simple.

not productive enough

It looks nice and integrates well wth OSX, but since there is no monthly view it’s hard to plan ahead, which renders this app useless for anyone who is an organizer; the price is also too expensive for a calendar app. I plan on removing it and trying something else.

Indespensiable- Works Fine in Yosemite 10.10.4

The best productivity tool I have. I have one monitor dedicated to this app as my calendar.

Terrible program - coopts your computer and will not close!

What a waste of $10! This program is awful! It takes up most of the desktop and is very intrusive (although “translucent” or “transparent” it is still very obvious). But even worse, there is no way to close it. I even tried turning off and restarting my Mac. It was still there. I couldn’t even delete the program—it said it couldn’t be deleted because it was “open.” Aargh! I finally had to go into the Activity Monitor, search for “Blotter” and force quit from there. Phew. At least that worked. Finally gone. Then I could uninstall the program. I owned it for all of about 10 minutes, and most of that was spent trying to get rid of it! Worst $10 spent!

Always blaming someone else

Recently upgraded my machine to Yosemite. And now Blotter keeps stalling on a daily basis. Have to keep quitting it and restarting it. Contacted customer support and they basically said, we don’t know what the problem is, so it must be Apple’s fault. Even if it’s true, it’s not helpful. And since Calendar etc are working fine, I’m skeptical anyways. I wish the tech support of this company was as good as this program concept. I’ve used this program for years. It serves a vital function. This is the second time I’ve needed technical support, and in both cases the company was unhelpful. Too bad there isn’t a different company with a similar app. I’d switch in a heartbeat.

great things and missing pieces

lots of great things about this app — sync with reminders and ical is great — a really nice, lower cost option for integrating to do list with calendar; looks great — love the aesthetic; love having it on the back of my computer screen. i definitely suffer from not having my calendar foregrounded and therefore forgetting what i had planned. a few key missing pieces — not being able to shift the default times on the screen (i am a teacher — it is so annoying that i can’t see 7am to 5pm, for example!); needs a tutorial before starting (it took me 15 min to figure out where the little icon was hidden in my top bar to change preferences once i had made the initial setting); option to stack/categorize the "to do list" beyond just color coding would be nice.

An Essential App

Blotter has been on my desktop for nearly 4 years and has kept me on time and on task. Use keyboard shortcuts (in Preferences) for even more functionality. Great app, thanks.

Works with Yosemite

Great app for people like me who need things written down and constantly in my face to remind me of my schedule. Cost: One time cost of $10 is OK with me; someone/a group of people took the time to create this app, so I have no problem paying for the app. Pros: -Love that it’s on my desktop and open at all times, becuase I am able to see my schedule by the hour, with several hours of the day showing at one time, and seven days showing at once (that is a preference and can be changed according to the user). -Having my schedule listed by the hour is VERY helpful considering I am a student in college and many classes, events and organization meetings are held on an hourly basis. The user can title the “event” so the Blotter app will show that I have an “NSLS Meeting” from 12 PM - 1 PM, etc. -It is customizable in the sense that I can keep/take out any section that I don’t need, and that I can size the sections accordingly (and also make it full desktop or a fraction). Love that it’s transparent. -It has made me a more productive person. Seeing how long an “event” will take visually really helps me to stay on top of things so I can have time for myself later. Cons: -This doesn’t apply to me, but the app is not something that you can minimize/x-out if want be; you have to quit the app for it to dissapear from the desktop. I prefer that the app is constantly up so I can see my schedule over the course of a week everyday, but many people might disagree. -I haven’t yet figured out how to make the To-Do section work, so I use the Sticky Notes app instead. -People love customization; if possible, this app should be updated with many customizable features, such as skins, or color schemes, etc. (I don’t understand tech stuff, so this is a suggestion, only is possible). -You cannot directly click on the app on the desktop; instead, you edit it using the Calendar app. Overall, it has helped me A TON in my life; I highly reccomend it for time management and organization. I hope that anyone who tries it has successful results. Best of luck and hope this rating helped!

Works with OS X El Capitan

I saw many negative reviews on the App Store regarding the compatibility issues with Apple’s later Operating System updates, so I contacted WireLoad’s support. I hadn’t heard back from them, so against my better judgment I purchased the app anyways. I am very pleased. It works exactly as I expected, syncs with iCal and I have not experienced any issues with El Capitan thus far. My only two criticisms are the facts that it: 1) Syncs only with Apple’s iCal and Reminders. I wish I could alter the preferences to sync with Wunderlist or other third-party sources. 2) That the customer service at WireLoad would respond more promptly. Overall, an app that does what it advertises and looks great.

Helped me with my Time Management!

I am not sure how many college students use this, but I love being organized. I finally realized my agenda was not working when I missed an interview. So I decided to look up some great calendar apps for the computer and came across this one. There were many negative reviews, but I decided to take the chance. This is LITERALLY life changing. I have the Google Calender app on my phone, so when I schedule an appointment or plan I enter it immediately onto Google Calendar and it syncs to Blotter on my macbook. For people who may be having trouble opening the system preferences for the app, there’s a calender symbol near the clock on the right, top hand side of the computer. For $10, I am sure I would have been hesitate to get this, but I had a giftcard. :) Either way it has been a very good investment. Hope the company only continues to improve the app.

What I was looking for

I was a little hesitant, based on the negative reviews, to purchase this application. But so far it is pretty much what I was looking for. I have it parked on my second monitor, where it stays faded and in the background of other apps. I have the hotkey for the calendar mapped to a Dragon Dictate voice command, so I can simply call it up when I need to view it above other opened windows. I also have it linked to a Keyboard Maestro macro so that when my computer is awakened, this calendar comes to forefront after 10 seconds. I like how it syncs with iCloud calendar, and allows for adding events from the menubar. Though I do say to-do manager, it’s very useful to get a overview of scheduled events without having to open the regular calendar app on my to-do manager. I’m glad it’s still working. I’m sure the developers could much more with it, but for now it seems to be working okay.

Amazing calendar for the price

Works really well, especially when you create your own shortcuts to create reminders and events on the fly. Super easy to use and havent had any problems with it so far. My only complaint is that you cant make any changes to the blotter calendar from the desktop itself, you still have to open the calendar app to make edits.

Does the job but could be better

First, it works with El Capitan. No problems so far. Second, it does the job well. My suggestions: An opacity control would be fantastic. Being able to resize windows without having the content disapear on the custom window would also be great. All in all it is a good app. Would be more fair if price was $4.99

Nice

Its there always in the background reminding me what is going on. Super handy.

Frustrating.

I wish I had known you can’t manipulate the calendar. What’s the point? Get back to your desktop, see something, want to adjust or add something, and you can’t. You have to go to another calendar app to do it. Also no month view is very annoying. It looks nice, but so what, $10 to just see something you can’t manipulate? waste.

Pretty Amazing

I hesitated getting this since its primary function is to just mirror the calendar but after using it for a month, it is amazing and extremely convenient. The only thing I would like to see added is the time next to the item on the blotter. Mine is set to cover my entire desktop space so when I look at an event, I have to find the time at the left side of the blotter. It would be much easier to see the even and the actual time on it much like Calendar shows it. Other than that one thing, it’s a wonderful product.

Doesn’t work with El Capitan

Used to work fine. After El Capitan upgrade, it doesn’t show any of my calendars, even when it has permission under System Preferences.
